Archaeologists examine a Roman gypsum burial cast in a museum storeroom.

York Museums Trust site visit

Members of the project team visited the York Museum Trust stores to assess the gypsum burial remains in advance of the programme of 3D scanning due to commence in Spring 2025.

We're pleased to announce the commencement of the Seeing the Dead project! The project will run until 2028 and we're excited to see what light we can shed upon the practice of gypsum burials in Roman Yorkshire.
